ABC News has confirmed the location of the highly anticipated debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. The event, set to take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been announced with a clear message: this debate will be a pivotal moment in the political calendar. For many Trump supporters, the choice of Philadelphia, a Democratic stronghold, will undoubtedly reignite memories of past tensions and political clashes.
ABC News broke the news, revealing that the debate will kick off at 9 p.m. ET, with an hour-long pre-debate show titled Race for the White House, hosted by Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, Mary Bruce, and Rachel Scott. This announcement comes after Vice President Harris turned down previous invitations to debate on September 4 on Fox News and on September 25 on NBC. However, she has hinted at a possible debate in October, leaving the door open for further confrontations.
“The debate about debates is over,” Harris’s campaign declared, indicating a final agreement between both campaigns for three debates—two presidential and one vice-presidential. “Donald Trump’s campaign accepted our proposal for three debates… Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on September 10 to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor Walz will see JD Vance on October 1 and the American people will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October.”
The choice of Philadelphia as the debate site is sure to stir strong emotions among Trump’s base. The city not only leans heavily Democratic but is also the place where, on September 1, 2022, President Joe Biden delivered a speech that remains etched in the minds of many conservatives. Standing outside Independence Hall, bathed in red light, President Biden condemned Trump and his supporters, labeling them as a dangerous force threatening the very fabric of American democracy.
“We must be honest with each other and with ourselves,” Biden proclaimed, flanked by U.S. Marines, in what many considered a highly symbolic and divisive address. “Too much of what’s happening in our country today is not normal. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”
Biden’s fiery rhetoric didn’t stop there. He went on to accuse “MAGA Republicans” of disregarding the Constitution, dismissing the rule of law, and refusing to accept the results of free elections. “They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election,” he asserted, leaving no doubt about his views on the former president’s influence.
“And they’re working right now, as I speak in state after state, to give the power to decide elections in America to partisans and cronies, empowering election-deniers to undermine democracy itself,” Biden continued. He painted a grim picture of the Republican movement, suggesting that it seeks to roll back civil liberties and fan the flames of political violence.
“MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards,” Biden warned, invoking fears of a return to a more oppressive America. “Backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.”
Meanwhile, as the debate date approaches, Trump is gearing up for what promises to be a fierce political showdown. The former president has brought on board a familiar face to help with his debate preparations—former Democrat Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard. Known for her frequent appearances on Fox News, Gabbard has a history with Harris that could make her a valuable asset to Trump’s team.
During the 2020 Democrat Primary Debate, Gabbard delivered a scathing critique of Harris that many believe significantly damaged Harris’s campaign. “Senator Harris says she’s proud of her record as a prosecutor and that she’ll be a prosecutor president, but I’m deeply concerned about this record,” Gabbard stated, highlighting Harris’s controversial record on criminal justice. “There are too many examples to cite, but she put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.”
Gabbard’s takedown didn’t end there. She accused Harris of blocking evidence that could have freed an innocent man from death row, keeping people in prison beyond their sentences to use them as cheap labor, and fighting to maintain a cash bail system that disproportionately affects the poor. “She kept people in prison beyond their sentences to use them as cheap labor for the state of California and she fought to keep cash bail system in place that impacts poor people in the worst kind of way,” Gabbard added.
5 years ago today, Tulsi Gabbard ended Kamala Harris 2020 presidential campaign after calling her out in a debate.

Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed Gabbard’s addition to the team, signaling that Trump is pulling out all the stops as he prepares to face Harris on the debate stage. With the stakes so high and the venue loaded with political significance, the upcoming debate is set to be a must-watch event that could have far-reaching implications for both campaigns.
