A Florida man’s battle against local officials over his pro-Trump banners ended in victory this week after a court ruled in his favor. Marvin Peavy, a Santa Rosa Beach entrepreneur, fought Walton County for years to keep his political flags flying, and now, he’s won.
Since 2020, Peavy has proudly displayed banners supporting Donald Trump on his home along Scenic Highway 30A. He told Fox News he has around “10 to 12 different banners,” with messages such as “Trump 2020” and “Trump Now, Trump Won.”
Trouble began in 2021 when a complaint was filed against his display. County officials claimed his banners violated Walton County scenic corridor rules and ordered him to remove them or face daily fines.
Peavy refused. The county responded by slapping him with fines of $50 per day. Over time, the penalties stacked up to a staggering $63,000, which Peavy never paid, according to WJHG-TV.
Determined to stand his ground, Peavy took the county to court, arguing that the regulations infringed on his First Amendment rights. Judicial Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Lewis agreed. The ruling not only protected Peavy’s right to free expression but also ordered the county to reimburse him $42,000 in legal fees.
“Their laws cannot supersede my First Amendment right, so they came after my constitutional rights, which they cannot do. It woke me up as a patriot,” Peavy said after his victory. “People love it, because people believe in America the Free.”
Peavy’s stand has turned him into a social media sensation. His TikTok videos showcasing his banners and legal battle have amassed millions of views, igniting debate across the internet.
Originally from Valdosta, Georgia, Peavy now owns Peavy Plantation in Tifton, a small Georgia town. His journey into political expression began in February 2020 when he first put up a Trump sign. The backlash was immediate. Some critics even threw eggs at his home, but he remained undeterred.
“We have rights in this country. My signs are going to hang regardless,” Peavy declared after the ruling.
His case highlights an ongoing struggle between personal freedom and local regulations. For Peavy, it wasn’t just about politics—it was about standing up for constitutional rights. And this time, the law was on his side.
