Tesla Owner Hits Rock Bottom – His $60K Cybertruck Turns Into a Brick After a Wash!

The Tesla Cybertruck is making headlines once again, but not for its futuristic design or innovative features. A Cybertruck owner recently shared a frustrating experience after his vehicle became unusable following a routine car wash, raising questions about the reliability of Tesla’s newest hardware.

A Day at the Beach Ends in Frustration

TikTok user @captain.ad, a proud new Cybertruck owner, posted a video explaining how his two-month-old truck with just 3,400 miles on it suddenly stopped working. The truck’s screen—a critical component for Tesla’s operation—went blank after he washed off sand from a beach outing. The video has since gone viral, amassing over five million views.

“The Cybertruck does not work anymore,” he says in the video. “I’m about two and a half months in and 3,400 miles, and it’s not working right now.”

What Went Wrong?

The owner described taking his truck to a car wash to remove sand from the exterior and truck bed. Afterward, when he parked it in the garage, the screen failed to turn on. Despite Tesla’s built-in “Car Wash Mode,” the owner suspects water damage may have caused the issue.

“So when I go in and open the door, you see one problem: the screen is not coming on,” he explains. Following Tesla’s recommendation to reset the screen, he held the required buttons for 30 seconds, but nothing happened. Instead, he was met with odd noises and a non-functional display.

“Listen to the noise this thing makes when I hold the buttons in,” he says, highlighting popping sounds from the dash. Despite several attempts, the screen remained blank, leaving him frustrated.

The Owner’s Growing Concerns

Without a functioning screen, the owner says driving the truck feels unsafe. “The AC is running, the windshield wiper works, and if I press the brake, the lights come on. It looks like I can drive it, but what good is driving it if you don’t know your speed, your rearview mirror, any info? You’re driving this thing blind.”

After plugging the truck in and filing a service ticket through Tesla’s app, he left it overnight, unsure of what else to do.

A Surprising Reset

By morning, the situation took an unexpected turn. “Here is a quick update,” he says in a follow-up video. “This morning, I went to the truck to grab stuff like my key card and keys for work, and the truck was working.”

Tesla service contacted him shortly after, confirming the issue was not isolated. “They said it is a known issue in the Cybertruck that when you do a screen reset, it takes five hours instead of resetting in the standard two minutes.”

While the truck is back to functioning, the owner expressed disbelief over the lengthy reset time. “Five hours to reset a computer? All I wanna know is, where do I get that computer to take it to work? ‘Sorry, boss, I’m resetting my computer.’”

What Does Tesla’s Manual Say?

Tesla’s Cybertruck manual outlines specific instructions for car washes, emphasizing the importance of activating “Car Wash Mode.” This feature locks the charge port, disables windshield wipers, and ensures the vehicle remains in neutral during the wash. However, the manual warns that failing to use this mode could result in damage not covered by Tesla’s warranty.

Conclusion

While Tesla’s innovation continues to impress, incidents like this highlight the growing pains of cutting-edge technology. Owners should be cautious when using features like Car Wash Mode and consider the potential risks.
