Student Loan Free-For-All Gets Shut Down – Trump’s Big Move Will Leave You Gasping!

In a bold new move, President Donald Trump has overhauled the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, cutting off student loan relief for individuals tied to illegal immigration, disruptive protests, and progressive causes his administration opposes.

The executive order, signed late Friday, aims to reverse the Biden administration’s expansive approach to student debt relief. Trump’s directive slams the previous PSLF changes as a misuse of taxpayer dollars, arguing that they benefited activists rather than public servants.

Cracking Down on Activist Organizations

“The prior administration abused the PSLF Program through a waiver process, using taxpayer funds to pay off loans for employees still years away from the statutorily required number of payments,” the order states. “Moreover, instead of alleviating worker shortages in necessary occupations, the PSLF Program has misdirected tax dollars into activist organizations that not only fail to serve the public interest, but actually harm our national security and American values, sometimes through criminal means.”

The revised policy explicitly blocks loan forgiveness for individuals engaging in actions deemed harmful by the administration. These include supporting terrorism, violating immigration laws, committing crimes during protests, and engaging in activities like child trafficking or promoting gender transition treatments for minors. The ban extends to those participating in “illegal discrimination” and state law offenses such as trespassing, vandalism, and obstructing highways.

Targeting Public Employees in Controversial Fields

The PSLF program was originally designed to forgive student loans for government and nonprofit employees after a decade of service. However, Trump’s administration argues that many beneficiaries work for organizations that engage in unlawful or un-American activities.

Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council, outlined the reasoning behind the crackdown. “The problem is that a lot of these people work for NGO organizations or nonprofit organizations that engage in illegal, what we consider to be improper, activities,” he said. “Supporting, for example, illegal immigration or foreign terrorist organizations.”

Loan Forgiveness Program Remains, But With Limits

Despite the new restrictions, the PSLF program itself will not be eliminated. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon assured the public that the program will continue to exist within legal bounds.

“Yes, because that’s the law. We certainly should honor those programs,” McMahon said. “And if we want stronger or more programs for loan forgiveness, then I think Congress should pass those programs and then we would implement it.”

However, the administration’s revised approach could be seen as a response to ongoing campus protests, particularly those linked to pro-Palestinian demonstrations following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel. Trump recently pulled $400 million in federal funding from Columbia University, citing its failure to address antisemitic incidents tied to the protests.

Universities Under Fire

McMahon defended the move, pointing to the treatment of Jewish students at elite institutions. “Today, we demonstrate to Columbia and other universities that we will not tolerate their appalling inaction any longer,” she stated. She argued that Jewish students had suffered “relentless violence, intimidation, and antisemitic harassment on their campuses” while university officials stood by.

With this executive order, Trump has made it clear that federal student loan relief will no longer extend to those engaged in controversial activism, illegal protests, or actions that run counter to his administration’s policies.
