Sister Makes Shocking Discovery – You Won’t Believe What She Found After 3 Months!

An Alabama family is devastated after discovering the remains of a missing man more than three months after his fatal car accident. The man’s body, left only a few steps away from the crash site, was found by none other than his own sister. Now, she’s pointing the finger at law enforcement, accusing them of failing to conduct a proper search in the aftermath of the crash.

Katie Lewis, sister of Kody Martin, recounted the harrowing discovery of her brother’s body on September 2nd. Martin’s wrecked car had been removed from the scene months earlier, but his body remained just yards away in a patch of woods off County Road 55 in Cullman.

Lewis shared her heartbreaking account with The Post, describing the moment she and her brother-in-law found Kody’s remains after just 20 steps into the forest. “It was awful. It was something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy,” she said.

According to Lewis, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and confirmed that the remains were indeed her brother’s, later verifying his identity through dental records.

Brother Missing for Over 100 Days

The tragedy started on May 30th when Kody Martin’s car was found crashed into a telephone pole. The State Troopers who responded to the initial accident reportedly left without finding Martin’s body. Unbeknownst to them, it was close by. His sister, Katie, had reported him missing on July 26th, two months after the crash.

For weeks, the family held out hope for answers, but as Labor Day weekend approached, their lives took a dark turn. It wasn’t until a tow truck company that had removed Kody’s wrecked vehicle contacted Lewis, letting her know where the accident occurred. This call would be the first real clue in months, sparking Katie’s decision to revisit the crash site.

“He had been actively missing 104 days. So there’s no way I could have not just went out there,” Lewis explained, driven by the desperate need for closure.

Armed with determination, Katie and her brother-in-law went to the scene, where, after only 30 minutes of searching, they found Kody’s remains in the woods. It was a discovery no family member should ever have to make.

Cause of Death

The Morgan County Coroner, Jeff Chunn, told The Post that Kody Martin’s cause of death was “blunt force injuries from the car accident.” He added that his body was too far decomposed to immediately identify, thus requiring dental records for confirmation.

While the family now has the heartbreaking answer of where Kody was, the pain remains, as they question why it took so long to find him when he was so close to the crash site.

Family Calls for Investigation

Katie Lewis is not satisfied with how law enforcement handled the initial investigation. She claims that had the State Troopers conducted a thorough search after the crash, her brother’s body could have been recovered much sooner, sparing her family months of agony.

“I don’t know why they didn’t find him,” Lewis said. Now, she plans to consult a lawyer to explore legal action and get further investigation into the accident’s aftermath.

The Alabama State Troopers, who were responsible for the first response at the crash scene, have yet to comment on the situation.

Search Efforts Questioned

The discovery of Kody Martin’s body raises troubling questions about the search protocols followed by law enforcement in Alabama. Families expect thorough searches after accidents, especially in cases where the driver is missing.

Lewis’s criticism underscores a broader frustration that some families feel when they don’t get the answers they need from authorities. For Kody’s family, not knowing where he was for over three months turned an already tragic situation into a long, painful ordeal.

While the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner were involved in the final discovery, it was Katie’s own persistence and determination that led her to her brother’s remains. The trauma of having to search for a loved one’s body is something she never expected to face.

As Katie Lewis seeks justice and answers for her brother, the questions remain: Why wasn’t a more thorough search conducted? And could this tragedy have been avoided if Kody Martin’s body had been found earlier?

For now, this heartbroken family will continue grieving while they search for legal recourse, hoping that no other family has to go through what they did.
