From Steak to Victory: My Year-Long Red Meat Adventure Health Experts Hate!

A year ago, Patrick Ensley weighed nearly 300 pounds. His belly size defied conventional measurement, and his struggle with depression felt insurmountable. Today, the HVAC technician from Milford, Nebraska, stands 140 pounds lighter, attributing his remarkable transformation to an unconventional choice: an all-carnivore diet.

Before his weight-loss journey, Patrick’s energy levels were critically low. After work, he would collapse onto the couch, unable to muster the strength to engage with his family. Now, he’s a different man.

“I come home, and I’m able to throw around my 2-year-old son on the couch, swing him upside down, and still have energy left over for my family,” Patrick shared.

Sleep, once interrupted by loud snoring that drove his wife to sleep on the couch, has also drastically improved. “I no longer snore. I wake up feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to start the day,” he said.

Before starting his carnivore diet with his wife Caitlynn, Patrick’s chest measured 51 inches; it¿s now 38 inches. His belly went from 57 inches to 38, and his hips shrank from 49.5 inches to 37
Patrick, an HVAC technician in Milford, Nebraska, transformed his life by adopting a full-carnivore diet, eating a 16-ounce steak, a pound of ground beef, and six eggs daily

Patrick’s physical changes are striking. His chest, once measuring 51 inches, has shrunk by 13 inches. His belly, previously 57 inches around, is now 19 inches smaller. But the changes go beyond the physical.

“Even after the first month or two, I noticed a huge change in my mood, ambition, and positivity,” Patrick explained. His depression and brain fog have lifted, allowing him to enjoy sharper focus and improved mental clarity.

Patrick’s diet, which includes a daily regimen of steak, ground beef, and eggs, aligns with the carnivore lifestyle championed by high-profile figures like Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson. Yet, this diet remains contentious.

Studies have linked high red meat consumption to serious health issues, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. A 2023 Harvard University report revealed that consuming two servings of red meat per week could increase the risk of type 2 diabetes by 62%.

The diet can become pretty monotonous, Patrick said, so to mix it up he’ll sometimes eat sauteed shrimp or air-fried chicken wings

Conversely, some experts challenge these findings. Dr. Aseem Malhotra, a British cardiologist, argues that red meat has been unfairly vilified. “The evidence is only there for processed meat, not red meat,” he stated.

While Patrick praises the carnivore diet for its simplicity and results, experts caution against potential risks. Dietitian Jane Clarke warns that this restrictive regimen, devoid of fruits, vegetables, and fiber, can lead to nutrient deficiencies and heart strain.

“Plate after plate of saturated fat and cholesterol puts immense strain on your heart,” Clarke noted, citing long-term risks such as heart disease and kidney damage.

Still, Patrick believes in the diet’s potential, offering advice for those curious to try it. His tips include eliminating non-meat items from the home, stocking up on convenient carnivore-friendly foods, and keeping a clear goal in mind.

Patrick’s success on the carnivore diet, along with others like Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson, contrasts with evidence of its risks. A 2023 Harvard report found that eating just two servings of meat per week increases the risk of type 2 diabetes
Patrick used to come home from work completely drained, collapsing on the couch until falling into restless sleep. Now, he comes home full of energy, playing with his 2-year-old son while still having energy left over

Patrick’s story underscores a broader debate about the carnivore diet. Advocates highlight its benefits, such as weight loss and the elimination of processed foods. Critics warn of its long-term health implications, including increased cholesterol and kidney strain.

The carnivore diet is extremely restrictive. While Patrick suggests the keto diet as a manageable stepping stone to going meat-only, some doctors warn that its potential health risks may outweigh the benefits

For Patrick, the transformation has been life-changing. “This experience has completely changed my life, and I’ve found my purpose again,” he said.

As the popularity of the carnivore diet grows, its impact—both positive and negative—continues to spark conversation among experts and followers alike.

Patrick’s journey is a testament to the profound effects diet can have on physical and mental health. Yet, it also serves as a reminder of the importance of consulting healthcare professionals before embarking on drastic lifestyle changes. While the debate over the carnivore diet rages on, Patrick’s renewed energy, health, and happiness stand as a powerful testament to the potential of personal transformation.
