In August 2024, an image circulated on social media that appeared to show a controversial children’s toy from Fisher-Price: a “My First Dealer Kit.” The supposed toy set included items like a gray hoodie, a gun, cash, and marijuana, sparking outrage and confusion among viewers.
The image quickly went viral, with many questioning if the toy company would ever release such a product. However, upon closer inspection, there were several clues suggesting the image was not real but instead the result of generative artificial intelligence (AI) software. Some key details, such as misspelled words and odd inconsistencies with the Fisher-Price branding, stood out. The label on the box, for instance, said “Fisher Picce” instead of “Fisher-Price,” and “KT” instead of “KIT.”

Beyond these typos, the design of the box also seemed off. Logos and lettering were either distorted or replaced with random figures and symbols, another clear sign that the image had likely been generated by AI. This was confirmed by Hive Moderation, an online tool that specializes in detecting AI-generated or deepfake content. According to their analysis, the image was 99.8% likely to have been created using AI technology.
Mattel, the parent company of Fisher-Price, was quick to clarify that no such product exists in its inventory. As of now, there is no official comment from the company, though they have been approached for one. If any statement is made, updates will follow.
This isn’t the first time fake children’s toys have surfaced online. Similar hoaxes have included products like “My First Vape,” a “Happy Hour Playset,” the “My First Hookah,” and even a “My First Séance” kit, all of which were eventually debunked. The “My First Dealer Kit” image follows this pattern of AI-generated fakes designed to provoke reactions on social media.
This incident highlights how quickly AI-generated content can spread misinformation. While the image may have seemed real at first glance, a few telling details, along with online verification tools, helped reveal its true nature. The situation serves as a reminder to remain skeptical of such posts and verify sources before jumping to conclusions.
