Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy Team Up to ‘Take It All Away’ – Federal Workers Won’t See This Coming!

In a bold move to reshape federal operations, Elon Musk, the visionary founder of Tesla, and Vivek Ramaswamy, a business leader and politician, are set to eliminate work-from-home arrangements for federal employees. As heads of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), appointed by President-elect Donald Trump, the duo plans to enforce sweeping changes aimed at reducing the size of the federal workforce and cutting government expenses.

A Vision for Change

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed published on November 20, Musk and Ramaswamy detailed their proposal to mandate a five-day in-office workweek for federal employees. The initiative, they explained, is part of a broader strategy to streamline government functions and reduce taxpayer burdens.

President-elect Trump charged them with a significant task: to shrink the federal bureaucracy and confront inefficiencies head-on. Trump stated, “The entrenched and ever-growing bureaucracy represents an existential threat to our republic, and politicians have abetted it for too long.”

An Entrepreneurial Approach

Musk and Ramaswamy emphasized their outsider status as entrepreneurs rather than career politicians, positioning themselves as disruptors determined to make a difference. They also clarified that their roles in DOGE are voluntary, meaning they’ll serve without the perks or titles typically associated with federal positions.

“That’s why we’re doing things differently,” they wrote. “We are entrepreneurs, not politicians. We will serve as outside volunteers, not federal officials or employees. Unlike government commissions or advisory committees, we won’t just write reports or cut ribbons. We’ll cut costs.”

Strategic Reforms

The duo’s plan includes assembling a team of experts to overhaul federal processes. By tapping into the nation’s brightest legal and technical minds, they aim to implement reforms that focus on regulatory rollback, administrative reductions, and cost-saving measures.

Their reforms, they stressed, would rely heavily on executive actions rooted in existing laws rather than seeking new legislation. They explained, “Our North Star for reform will be the U.S. Constitution, with a focus on two critical Supreme Court rulings issued during President [Joe] Biden’s tenure.”

The Push to End Telework

One of their most controversial proposals involves ending remote work for federal employees, which they claim will naturally reduce the workforce. “Requiring federal employees to come to the office five days a week would result in a wave of voluntary terminations that we welcome,” they asserted. “If federal employees don’t want to show up, American taxpayers shouldn’t pay them for the COVID-era privilege of staying home.”

This mandate could significantly impact over one million federal workers. According to an August 2024 report by the Office of Management and Budget, nearly half of all federal civilian employees are eligible for telework, while approximately 10% work remotely full-time without plans to return to the office.

Potential Fallout

Critics argue that ending remote work could disrupt operations and lower morale among federal employees. Supporters, however, believe it’s a necessary step to restore accountability and efficiency within government agencies. The debate over the future of federal work arrangements continues to spark discussion across the nation.

A Mission to Cut Costs

Musk and Ramaswamy’s agenda signals a shift toward leaner governance. Their ultimate goal is to trim excess spending and reduce bureaucracy, a mission that aligns with President-elect Trump’s vision. “We’ll cut costs,” they reiterated, underscoring their commitment to actionable reforms.

As the new administration prepares to take office, the implications of these changes remain uncertain. What is clear, however, is that Musk and Ramaswamy are not afraid to challenge the status quo, setting the stage for what could be a dramatic transformation of federal operations.
