Aldi has found itself under fire after a furious shopper vowed to never set foot in the store again, citing appalling cleanliness standards. The disgruntled customer took to social media to vent their frustration, posting a photo as proof of what they described as an “absolutely disgusting” shopping experience.
‘The Store is Filthy!’
Outraged by what they saw, the shopper didn’t hold back.
“Dear Aldi, this is absolutely disgusting,” they wrote. “The store is filthy! I used to love shopping here, now I will avoid it!”
Their complaints focused on grimy checkout registers and dirty floors. The accompanying image showed a checkout area with a deep crevice packed with dirt and decaying food particles—right next to where customers place their groceries.
But hygiene wasn’t the only issue. The shopper also called out the lack of pricing labels in the freezer section, further adding to their frustration.
“There’s no prices in the freezer,” they noted, using the hashtags “disgusting” and “do better.”
Aldi Responds
Aldi wasted no time in addressing the complaint, acknowledging the unpleasant experience.
“This certainly doesn’t look like a pleasant shopping experience,” the company admitted, responding publicly to the customer’s post. They urged the shopper to reach out to their customer service team so the issue could be properly addressed.

A Mixed Bag of Reactions
The viral post sparked a debate among Aldi customers, with reactions varying widely. Some backed the complaint, sharing similar experiences, while others defended the store’s cleanliness.
“Our used to be [clean]! It just went downhill tremendously in the last year or so!” one person commented.
Another shopper, however, had a different experience: “Their stores near me are always SPOTLESS.”
This isn’t the first time Aldi has faced criticism from customers. Recently, the grocery chain also had to respond to a complaint about poor customer service. A shopper on X (formerly Twitter) accused employees of having a “disrespect and snarky attitude.”
Aldi once again offered to look into the matter: “We’d love to learn more about your recent experience, so could you please send us a direct message and we’ll get you over to our team so they can speak to you further?”

A Bigger Problem?
Aldi’s swift responses suggest a company eager to address concerns, but repeated complaints raise questions about whether these issues are isolated or part of a larger trend.
Cleanliness and customer service are make-or-break factors for any retailer. While some Aldi locations may be pristine, others seem to be struggling—leading to frustrated shoppers who aren’t afraid to speak out.
Whether Aldi’s promises to improve will be enough to win back disheartened customers remains to be seen.
