Musk’s Naughty NATO Comments Are Setting the Internet on Fire!

Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk has joined the growing chorus of voices calling for the United States to withdraw from NATO and the United Nations. This comes after months of his criticism toward the two global institutions.

“I agree,” Musk, 53, stated on X in response to MAGA influencer Gunther Eagleman, who declared, “It’s time to leave NATO and the UN.”

Musk did not explain why he backs the idea, but his remark aligns with similar calls from Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah), who has been advocating for the US to cut ties with both organizations.

Lee, 53, a frequent presence on Musk’s platform X, recently introduced legislation urging America’s exit from the UN. He slammed the institution as “a platform for tyrants and a venue to attack America and her allies.”

On Saturday, Lee doubled down, suggesting that the US also withdraw from NATO. His remarks followed Norwegian fuel supplier Haltbakk Bunkers’ decision to stop refueling US Navy ships, citing opposition to former President Trump’s recent clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Europe doesn’t love us,” Lee wrote on X. “Let’s leave NATO.”

Despite Haltbakk Bunkers’ stance, Norway, a NATO ally, reaffirmed its commitment to assisting US military operations, dismissing the fuel supplier’s boycott.

NATO, established after World War II, was designed as a collective defense against the Soviet Union. Today, the alliance includes 32 member states and maintains that an attack on one member is an attack on all.

The United Nations, created in the same post-war era, was meant to foster diplomacy and prevent global conflicts. However, conservative critics argue that NATO members fail to share the defense burden fairly, while the UN unfairly targets the US.

Trump, 78, has long voiced frustration over NATO’s financial imbalance, arguing that European allies do not contribute enough to their own defense. He has also been a vocal opponent of the UN, recently cutting funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees and pulling out of the UN Human Rights Council.

Musk, a known Trump ally, has echoed similar sentiments, questioning NATO’s relevance after the Soviet Union’s collapse. He has also criticized US financial contributions to the UN, which received $1.54 billion in core funding from Congress last year, with additional funding going to other UN agencies.

Though Musk did not expand on his comment, his history of questioning US commitments to NATO and the UN suggests a firm alignment with the growing push to rethink America’s role in these global organizations.
