Stories of missing children often end in heartbreak, but this one is different. A father’s unwavering determination and bravery led him to personally rescue his 14-year-old daughter after she had been missing for nearly a month. The extraordinary tale of Frank Gervasi’s efforts has drawn comparisons to the plot of the Taken movie series, where a father stops at nothing to save his child.
A Father’s Worst Fear
Emmarae Gervasi disappeared from her home in East Patchogue, Long Island, on December 9, 2024. She stepped outside to grab some items from a Jeep and never returned. Panic set in as hours turned into days, and a massive search effort unfolded. While law enforcement worked tirelessly, Frank Gervasi was equally relentless in his search for his daughter.
“I fear that she is being held against her will,” Gervasi told the Daily Mail during the search. “I know she is with somebody and they are either convincing her to stay or won’t let her leave—or worse, she may be dead by now.”
A Desperate Search and an Anonymous Tip
Less than 24 hours after Emmarae vanished, a tip surfaced that someone had spotted her wandering along a road. Despite the lead, the search continued without success. Gervasi turned to social media, pleading for help from the community. His persistence paid off when he received an anonymous call nearly a month later, providing a chilling piece of information: Emmarae was being held on a boat in Islip.
In a video shared on Facebook after the rescue, Gervasi recounted the harrowing moment. “The phone call that I received was that she was on a boat in Islip,” he said. “I followed it up on my own and I went down there to check. I bust into the boat and recovered my daughter. She has been saved and is alive. I believe it was persistency that helped bring her home.”
The Arrest and Aftermath
On the same day Gervasi found Emmarae, police arrested 65-year-old Francis Buckheit in connection with her disappearance. According to court records, Buckheit was charged with rape, kidnapping, and endangering the welfare of a child. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip. Authorities confirmed that Buckheit was being held without bail and was scheduled to appear in court later in the week.
Gervasi revealed to News 12 that he believed Emmarae initially left with someone she knew and was later transported to the boat by a different individual. While the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are still under investigation, the father’s efforts ensured her safe return.
A Father’s Love Prevails
Since her rescue, Emmarae has been recovering in the hospital while the case remains active. Frank Gervasi’s actions have captured widespread attention, with many hailing him as a hero. His persistence and refusal to give up hope turned what could have been a devastating story into one of resilience and triumph.
As the investigation unfolds, Gervasi’s unwavering love for his daughter serves as a reminder of the lengths a parent will go to protect their child. “She has been saved and is alive,” he said. “That’s all that matters.”
