Jeremy Jackson, best known for his role as Hobie Buchannon on the iconic 90s show “Baywatch,” recently made a startling revelation that has shocked many fans. His character may have been the picture of innocence on screen, but Jackson admits to behavior that mirrored his on-screen persona in disturbing ways.
In the new documentary “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun,” which aired on August 28, Jackson, now 43, opened up about a secret he kept during his time on the show. The actor confessed that he would sneak into the trailers of his female co-stars after they had left for the day. “I would usually sneak into [the women’s] trailers after they were done and grab their dirty bathing suits. Let’s just say I smelled every [bleep] on Baywatch,” Jackson candidly shared, recalling how one actress’s scent, in particular, captivated him.
Jackson specifically mentioned Nicole Eggert, who portrayed Summer Quinn on the show, as the one whose scent he found irresistible. “And Nicole [Eggert] was the big one, for sure,” he revealed. “We had a very intimate moment, her and I, that she never knew about.”
The documentary’s producers didn’t keep this unsettling confession to themselves. They informed Eggert, now 52, who is currently battling breast cancer after her diagnosis in 2023. Surprisingly, Eggert wasn’t shocked by Jackson’s admission. “I knew Jeremy very well, this surprises me not at all,” she remarked in the documentary.
Jackson joined “Baywatch” at the tender age of 10, outshining other child actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio, to land the role. He spent nearly a decade on the show, growing up in the limelight and witnessing the ups and downs of Hollywood life. His admiration for Eggert was evident even then. “Nicole was the one I guess you could say I looked up to. She would come to work late and not give a f–k,” he shared, reflecting on his younger years.
Eggert, for her part, took Jackson’s confession in stride. “I’m not even mad at 14-year-old Jeremy. I mean, puberty on a show like that?” she joked, adding, “I love grown-up Jeremy for being honest about 14-year-old Jeremy.”
Jackson’s time on “Baywatch” was not without its challenges. He battled crystal meth addiction while filming the series, a struggle he kept hidden from those around him. “I remember David saying, ‘Are you smoking pot or something?’ And I was [thinking] like, Jesus, they think I’m smoking pot? I could never tell them the truth. What would they think?” Jackson recalled. His addiction took a toll on his life, leading to a downward spiral that eventually resulted in a 2017 prison sentence for his involvement in a stabbing incident. “I was spiraling down for sure. My life slipped through my hands like sand,” he confessed. “Would I do it all again? Probably not.”
The Hulu docuseries “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun” offers fans a deep dive into the beloved show that ruled the airwaves from 1989 to 1999. The four-part series is packed with never-before-seen footage and candid interviews with the cast, providing an intimate look at the lives of those who brought “Baywatch” to life.
While several cast members reunited for the premiere in Los Angeles, some notable faces were missing, including Pamela Anderson, who played the iconic C.J. Parker. Though Anderson didn’t participate in the new interviews, she did appear in an older, never-aired interview featured in the docuseries. “I’m really proud of everything I’ve done — almost,” she teased.
David Hasselhoff, who portrayed Mitch Buchannon, was also absent from the premiere but did make an appearance in the documentary. Reflecting on the show’s success, he quipped, “The show…it really wasn’t good, but we made it good because we had passion.”
Now streaming on Hulu, “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun” pulls back the curtain on the show that captured the world’s attention, revealing the stories behind the sun-soaked beaches and red swimsuits that defined a generation.
