Elon Musk has been stirring the pot on his X platform, teasing the idea of buying MSNBC, the network known for its liberal leanings. Recently, the billionaire and entrepreneur shared a series of memes hinting at the possibility, even joking about displacing Rachel Maddow with none other than Joe Rogan.
The speculation began when Comcast announced it would spin off its cable assets into a new entity called SpinCo. This move sparked rumors that popular channels like CNBC and MSNBC could be up for sale. Musk, ever the provocateur, repeatedly asked, “How much does it cost?” when questioned about his interest in purchasing the channel.
In one of his posts, Musk suggested that the most “entertaining” outcome would be the most ironic, fueling the fire of online discussion.
Joe Rogan quickly joined the conversation, offering his own twist on the idea. If Musk were to take control of MSNBC, Rogan made it clear he’d like to take over Rachel Maddow’s role. In his characteristic style, he quipped, “If you buy MSNBC I would like Rachael (sic) Maddow’s job. I will wear the same outfit and glasses, and I will tell the same lies.”
Musk responded with a simple, one-word answer: “Deal.”
While the idea of Musk purchasing MSNBC is clearly playful, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Musk has not been shy in his criticism of the network, once labeling it the “utter scum of the Earth” and accusing it of “peddling propaganda.” He has even predicted that the network is “going down.” Despite these jabs, Musk’s recent remarks have added a layer of intrigue to the whole situation.
For now, it remains unclear whether this will lead to anything more than an ongoing exchange of memes and playful banter. But Musk’s history of surprising moves has left many wondering what could happen if he truly followed through with this acquisition.
As always, with Musk, it’s hard to know when he’s serious and when he’s simply having fun. However, the idea of a new direction for MSNBC with Rogan stepping in as the face of the network certainly adds an unexpected twist to the media landscape. Whether or not this will become a reality is anyone’s guess, but for now, it’s a story that has people talking.
