Just days have passed since Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, leaving many to wonder what led to the end of their marriage. As more details emerge, Affleck’s behavior during their relationship is being scrutinized.

According to a source speaking to People magazine, Affleck exhibited “erratic behavior” and “giant mood swings” throughout the marriage. They described him as swinging between “incredibly happy and warm” to showing “the deepest, darkest behavior.”

The source suggested that Affleck might have been sending mixed signals to the press, saying, “I think he was signaling a message to the press,” but he was “participating” nonetheless.

In May 2023, not long after their wedding, a tense moment between the couple was caught on camera in Santa Monica. The footage, shared by Fox News Digital, shows Affleck opening the car door for Lopez before shutting it firmly. He then addresses the paparazzi, saying, “I think you got it.”

Earlier in February, just two months before their separation date, Affleck and Lopez attended the Grammy Awards together. A brief, awkward interaction between them, captured by cameras, quickly went viral. Affleck seemed to whisper something to Lopez, which prompted her to lightly slap his chest. They soon realized they were on camera and that host Trevor Noah was nearby.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck explained the incident: “I saw [Noah approach] and I was like, ‘Oh, God,'” he said. “They were framing us in this shot, but I didn’t know they were rolling. I leaned into her and I was like, ‘As soon as they start rolling, I’m going to slide away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor.’ She goes, ‘You better f—ing not leave.’ That’s a husband-and-wife thing.”

Despite their efforts to make the relationship work, the source revealed that the couple couldn’t overcome their challenges. “They were trying to work through it, but when the mood swings and the big highs and big lows informed a toxicity that was pervasive, no one can help you – you have to help yourself.”

The source emphasized that love was still present, stating, “But I would not be so bold to say there isn’t love – of course there is… The world was rooting for them, but who he said he was and who he turned out to be were two different people.”

On the other hand, Amy Laurent, a professional matchmaker and author of *8 Weeks to Everlasting: A Step-By-Step Guide to Getting (and Keeping!) the Guy You Want*, suggested that Lopez’s high-profile lifestyle might have also played a role in the breakup. “Jennifer Lopez is a powerhouse who leads a life far different from most of us… Celebrities, in general, are in very unique circumstances so are naturally going to face much greater challenges in finding love. For mega-stars with extravagant lifestyles, the difficulty is even greater,” she explained to Fox News Digital.

On Tuesday, Aug. 20, Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, exactly two years after their Georgia wedding. The court documents, obtained by Fox News Digital, show that Lopez cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split, noting that they had separated on April 26. Lopez filed the paperwork without a lawyer.

As of now, representatives for both Affleck and Lopez have not responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
