A man battling terminal cancer is holding onto hope that he will reunite with his wife, despite the fact that she plotted with her lover to have him killed in several shocking attempts.
Ray Weatherall, now fighting terminal brain cancer, narrowly escaped multiple murder plots hatched by his wife, Hayley, and his best friend, Glenn Pollard. Their scheming involved shooting, poisoning, and even attempting to blow Ray up—all of which he miraculously survived. Hayley’s daughter, Heather, also played a role in the chilling plans, and both she and Pollard were sentenced to life in prison.
Ray bears physical scars from the ordeal, including a bullet wound and burns from an explosion. Despite the horrors he endured, Ray says he has forgiven his wife entirely. Incredibly, he still travels 200 miles every month to visit Hayley in prison and looks forward to the day she is released.
“My aim is to survive long enough so Hayley can be released from prison and she can come back home,” Ray told The Mirror. “I can’t wait to have her back. I should’ve been dead years ago. It’s a miracle I am here.”
Ray’s optimism about reuniting with Hayley has drawn both amazement and criticism. While many call his forgiveness “mad,” Ray insists that Hayley was manipulated by Pollard, who had been his closest friend for over two decades. He places the blame squarely on Pollard, saying, “Hayley was brainwashed. She has always been easily led astray. But I blame my old friend Glenn entirely.”
Ray’s loyalty to Hayley has been evident even during her incarceration. He has continued to send her gifts, including a Boyzone CD after being told he couldn’t send perfume. His dedication is unwavering, despite a judge labeling Hayley as “cold and calculated.”
The events that led to their downfall began with a series of near-fatal incidents, including a sniper-style shooting carried out by Pollard’s daughter, Heather. The bullet struck Ray in the face but miraculously missed any vital areas. Before this, Ray had narrowly survived an explosion, a poisoning attempt with insulin, and a plan to drown him during a fishing trip.
At their trial, Kent Police revealed a long investigation that uncovered the couple’s murder plots, both before and after the shooting. Hundreds of messages were found between Pollard and Heather, detailing their plans to eliminate Ray so they could start a new life. Despite all of this, Ray claims that Hayley was merely “dragged into” the plot by Pollard, who he says was the mastermind.
“I’m disgusted with Glenn and his daughter,” Ray said in an interview with Good Morning Britain. “Glenn was most certainly the driver of it all. I’m disgusted that my wife got involved with it all.”
Their plot began to unravel when Ray’s niece, Emma Worsfold, learned of the affair between Hayley and Pollard and tipped off police. After a raid, police recovered the rifle used in the shooting and exposed the full extent of their murderous plans. In January, Hayley, Pollard, and Heather were arrested and later convicted. Glenn Pollard received life imprisonment with a minimum of 17 years, while Hayley and Heather were both sentenced to life with at least 15 years behind bars.
Despite everything, Ray remains focused on one thing: surviving long enough to see Hayley come home. His story is a remarkable testament to the complexities of forgiveness, loyalty, and love, even in the face of unimaginable betrayal.
